How the rounding works

The four bands are averaged, then rounded to the nearest half band — but exact quarters always round up.

  • 6.125 → 6.0
  • 6.25 → 6.5  (rounds up)
  • 6.375 → 6.5
  • 6.75 → 7.0  (rounds up)

Listening is the same for both tests

One conversion table covers Academic and General Training. 30 out of 40 is band 7.0 either way.

Reading is not

Academic is scored more generously. The same 30 out of 40 is band 7.0 on Academic and 6.0 on General Training — a full band apart.

Writing and Speaking are judged, not counted

There is no raw score. Four criteria, each worth a quarter. Writing Task 2 counts double Task 1.

A calculated band is a guess. A sat mock is evidence.

Take a full mock under exam conditions and get the same number, backed by a question-by-question breakdown of where the marks went.
